MosaKtion

Transforming Streets, Uniting Communities, and Redefining Art

Holmesdale Community Gardens, Stanley Arts

5 September 2026

Funded by Croydon Loves You, NJA presented MosaKtion, a series of community workshops dedicated to mosaic making and litter picking.

The project was led by local mosaic artist Corin Ashleigh Brown, whose practice blends traditional mosaic techniques with contemporary public art, encouraging people of all ages and abilities to discover the creative potential of everyday materials. Three workshops, held on 21 July, 8 August and 22 August 2026 between Holmesdale Community Gardens and Stanley Arts, led to the creation of a mosaic sign for Holmesdale Community Gardens.

Additional litter picks were carried out to gather materials, particularly bottle tops and drink cans, which were transformed into the finished artwork. Mosaics have long symbolised healing, turning broken or fragmented pieces into something beautiful, and MosaKtion drew on this tradition to invite participants to see overlooked materials, and perhaps even their local environment, in a new way.

The project concluded with a final celebration event at Holmesdale Community Gardens on 5 September. MosaKtion was a partnership between Norwood JunkAction, Southern Housing, London Mosaic Studios and Holmesdale Community Gardens.
