Turn Litter Into Art

This summer, join Norwood JunkAction and help transform discarded materials into public art.

Thanks to funding from Croydon Loves You, we're launching an exciting new community project in collaboration with local mosaic artist Corin Ashleigh Brown. Together, we'll create a series of permanent 3D mosaic sculptures that will be installed at Holmesdale Community Gardens.

Whether you join one session or the whole programme, MosaKtion is an opportunity to meet new people, discover your neighbourhood, and help transform everyday waste into something extraordinary.

No artistic experience is needed. Everyone is welcome.

What is MosaKtion?

MosaKtion is a creative community project that combines litter picking, mosaic making, and public art. Together, we'll collect discarded materials from around South Norwood before transforming them into colourful three-dimensional mosaic sculptures through a series of free creative workshops.

The finished artworks will be permanently installed at Holmesdale Community Gardens, followed by a community celebration to mark the completion of the project.

Mosaics have long been symbols of healing because they transform broken or fragmented pieces into something beautiful. Inspired by this tradition, MosaKtion invites participants to see overlooked materials, and perhaps even their local environment, in a new way.

Meet the Artist

Corin Ashleigh Brown is a South London-based mosaic artist and founder of London Mosaic Studios. She creates public artworks, community mosaics, and creative workshops that bring people together through making.

Her practice combines traditional mosaic techniques with contemporary public art, encouraging people of all ages and abilities to discover the creative potential of everyday materials.

For MosaKtion, Corin will guide participants through an experimental and playful approach to creating three- dimensional mosaic sculptures using reclaimed materials collected during our community litter-picking sessions.

No previous experience is required. The workshops are designed for complete beginners as well as anyone looking to explore their creativity.

How to Get Involved

You can join one session or take part in the full journey, from collecting materials to installing the finished artwork.

The project includes:

  • Community litter-picking sessions around South Norwood.
  • Creative mosaic workshops using reclaimed materials.
  • Light refreshments provided throughout each session.
  • A public installation and celebration at Holmesdale Community Gardens in October.

All equipment, tools, materials, and refreshments are provided free of charge.
